While making a large crochet garment or other item may be incredibly rewarding, it is also very time consuming and even a little boring! Quick crochet projects are a great way to make something a little unusual or different while also learning new crochet skills or practicing new techniques. The quick to crochet items are also perfect for last minute gifts.

Purses And Bags

Small purses and bags are quick to crochet and are a useful way to practice new stitches. Purses and bags can be as simple as a rectangle of crochet that is sewn together to form a bag, through to more complex designs that are crocheted in a single piece. Keep a look out for old and vintage purse and bag handles to give a really fashionable finish to a project.

Hats

Hats are quick to crochet and are a great way to learn about shaping. Crochet is perfect for making more unusual hats such as berets, caps or Tam O’Shanters. Use up odds and ends of yarn to make interesting colour combinations.

Hair Scrunchies

Crochet around an elastic band to create a pretty and unusual hair scrunchies. Vary the look by changing the stitches or adding beads or other embellishments. These are quick to make and it is possible to make a few using different stitches in an evening.

Scarves

Scarves are a simple crochet project and are great for beginners. They needn’t be boring, however, and there are lots of great variations on a simple scarf design for an interesting and quick crochet project. Try adding some unusual stitches such as bobble or popcorn stitch to add texture and dimension to the scarf or add a few rows of a fancy yarn. Instead of making a full length scarf, try making a short scarf and sewing the ends together to make a cowl.

Cosies

Egg and tea cosies are fun to make and are very fashionable. There are lots of patterns for retro and vintage inspired egg and tea cosies available. Both egg and tea cosies are quick to make and are highly adaptable. Simple and plain designs can be dressed up by adding surface decoration such as beads or embroidery. These are also a good way to practice shaping.

Dolls And Toys

Crochet dolls and toys are quick projects to crochet. Small amigurumi toys are very popular and follow a simple design. These are fun projects for both beginner and advanced crocheters. Add features to the dolls and toys with embroidery or with pieces of felt.

Crochet Jewellery

Crochet jewellery is all the rage and is very simple to do. Take a look at some of the crochet jewellery that graces the pages of fashion magazines and it is soon apparent that many of these items are created using some very simple and basic crochet techniques. Irish crochet roses, for instance, make lovely brooches, bag charms, hair accessories and even pendants and these are very simple to make.

Crochet beads are also very popular and these are simple to crochet. The beads can be stuffed with yarn or stitched over a polystyrene ball to give them strength.

Make crochet jewellry from fine crochet cotton as this is both hard wearing and also available in many colours. It is also possible to crochet jewellery from craft or silver wire. Very thin wire, for instance wire between .2mm and .5mm, is easy to work with and when combined with beads it creates stunning items of jewellery.

How To Find Quick To Make Crochet Patterns

There are many ways to find crochet patterns for quick crochet projects. Books, of course, are an excellent source of projects and ideas. Libraries have a wide range of books and will also order books in for a small fee. This is a good way to take a look through many different crochet books.

There are also many free crochet patterns available on the Internet and these can be a great source of inspiration to projects. Yarn manufacturers, magazines and specialist websites often have a range of free crochet patterns. There are also crochet forums where like minded people virtually ‘meet’ to discuss their latest projects. These websites are a good way to find free crochet patterns and to get feedback from other crocheters.

Quick crochet patterns are fun to make and are a much more interesting way of practicing and developing crochet skills than simply making sample squares.
